Roy Cross directs Ménard and Moss

Roy hails from Yorkton, Saskatchewan where he grew up snacking on the luminescent morsels of that city's film festival and sipping sweet, sorrowful Springsteen tunes.

He has been writing, producing and directing short films for the past 16 years. Most notable are Through the Looking which went to Oberhausen and Mirrored Homescapes which screened at the Ann Arbor film festival.

So Faraway and Blue was written out of a desire to make a film that explores the abandoned and the voyeur. The film is heavily influenced by the city of Montréal’s forgotten industrial areas as well as drawing on personal experience.

Shot in stunning black and white over 15 with a small crew and budget, So Faraway and Blue pushes the edge of conventional narrative and captures the spirit of independent cinema.

Roy was the sole producer on the film -- his company Flatland Films financed the development and a significant portion of the production phase. Roy recently accepted a fulltime faculty position at Concordia University. Cheryl, Flynn and Loch are family, Montréal is home. So Faraway and Blue is his first feature.

Roy is currently writing a new feature film script "Falling to Earth".

"Upon hearing that her old high school sweetheart has recently been left brain damaged, Falling to Earth tells the story of a thirty year old woman who sets out to see him one last time – and then kill him. The film takes place across and miles above Canada."

Roy is searching for a Co-Producer on the project and welcomes serious inquiries at faraway@aei.ca .
